QIGONG
Qi Gong 气功
Literally meaning “Qi Practice”, comes in many forms.
Qi, basically meaning breath but also energy and sometimes matter.
Gong from the word Gongfu is something that will become a skill yielding results when time is invested in a correct and consistent practice.
Many traditions have QiGong practices- Daoist, Buddist, Yogic/Ayurvedic and even TCM clinical. Singing or even laughter can be seen as a form of breath work. QiGong most often involves a posture a breath and an intention. It is one of the most powerful tools an individual can master for ones physical and emotional health.
TAIJI
Taichi 太极
Rhythmic, flowing and aerobic. Promotes deep and even breathing. Trains the body to move with poise, balance and flow. Meditation in movement, yet a practical martial art.
In it's pure meaning 太极拳 taijichuan is a sophisticated martial art intended to
empower the powerless. A truly revolutionary practice, as it was
intended by it's first practitioners who had to defend their families and villages out numbered by warlords with armies roaming the lands disturbing the peace.
Core concepts include heightening awareness of ones own bodily
balance, posture and movement with regard to anatomy, mental state, and gravity moving with intent as a whole around ones own center.
The side effects of such exercise are all highly therapeutic,
strengthening an individual both mentally and physically.
Taiji is an exercise of finding ones center
and expressing forth from there.
